Nirmala Sitharaman proposes a study in India programme

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has claimed that the government is all set to bring in a new national educational policy. Sitharaman said that India has the potential to become an “educational hub” and hence the new national education policy will focus on higher education.

The minister presented the first budget of the Narendra Modi government in its second term, and said the draft legislation for higher education commission will be presented.

Sitharaman said that our country has great potential to become an educational hub. She proposed of having a Study in India programme to attract the foreign students. The finance minister also announced Rs. 400 crore will be provided to the world-class institutions.

In their attempt to encourage sports education in India, she proposed of having a National Sports Education Board under the Khelo India scheme. To make youth of our country job-ready, the government announced ten million youth to undergo industry-relevant skill training under the Kaushal Vikas Yojana.

Nirmala Sitharaman, underlined the importance of the new-age skills like robotics, artificial intelligence and data science. She went to say a ‘Gandhi-pedia’ is being developed to sensitize youth about the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi’s ideas.
