Odisha schools to remain closed this year

November 7, 2020

The Odisha government has decided not to reopen schools in the state this year. All schools in the state would remain closed till December 31, 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the official notice.

The School and Mass Education (S&ME) department in a notification said, “The state government does hereby direct that all schools in the state shall remain closed till 31 December 2020.”

Exams and administrative activities will be permitted in the school. Online and distance learning will continue in schools. Teaching or non-teaching staff may be called to schools for online teaching and telecounselling outside the containment zones.

Earlier, the Odisha government announced that school syllabus up to class 12 will be reduced by 30 percent for the current academic session. The decision was taken as schools are closed across the state due to the pandemic, stated School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash. The announcement was made based on the recommendation of three committees set up for the purpose, he added.

The new syllabus will be available on the official websites of the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) and State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).
