Overview

Founded in 1846, Osmania Medical College is one of the oldest medical educational institutes in the world. Located in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, the college is presently affiliated to NTR University of Health Sciences, while it was previously affiliated to the Osmania University of Hyderabad. The college is also recognized by the Medical Council of India. Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad is the only educational institution in India where every medical specialty has a separate training hospital. It is also the only medical college in south India to offer a postgraduate course in Endocrinology. Initially, the college was called the Nizam’s Medical School but later in 1920, the medical school was upgraded into a medical college. Osmania Medical College finds its place among the top 30 medical institutions in India in leading education surveys conducted annually.

Campus

The college campus hosts an auditorium about the size of a cinema hall, reasonable sports facilities in the form a football/cricket (multipurpose) ground, an outdoor basketball court with lighting, a tennis court, volleyball court and a table tennis room. There are outdoor badminton courts in all the hostels. The college also has an Electrophysiology Lab. This unique facility makes Osmania Medical College the only medical college in the state of Andhra Pradesh with such a facility. The campus also houses four large hostel buildings providing separate accommodation for men and women.

General Information

Admission

For MBBS Admissions to the MBBS program are based on performance in EAMCET. The qualification for undergraduate courses is 10+2 or equivalent education with Botany, Zoology, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects. For BPT The qualification for this course is 10+2 or equivalent education with Botany, Zoology, Physics and chemistry. Students are admitted in the course depending on their grade point average or percentage of total marks in intermediate/+2. For PG courses Admissions to its postgraduate programs are based on the entrance test, APPGE. The qualification for all PG and PG-Diploma courses is an MBBS degree from any MCI (Medical Council of India) recognized medical college in India or an equivalent foreign degree which is recognized by the MCI. The seats in PG courses are filled through a common entrance test by the NTR University of Health Sciences.

Accommodation

There are four large hostel buildings providing separate accommodation for men and women. The hostel buildings are named after the great pioneers of medicine in India - Susrutha and Charaka.
