Our pick of the 10 best Christmas themed animated movies

With Christmas and New Year just around the corner, children are all upbeat and making exciting plans for the holidays. With so much activity going on – relishing the Christmas goodies, exchanging gifts and visiting friends – they are bound to get tired and long for some relaxing ‘couch’ time with their favourite movies. We bring to you some of the all-time favourite animated movies that will add to the festive fervour this Christmas.

A Christmas Carol

Released in 2009, this 3D animated dark fantasy film is actually an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ 1843 story of the same name. It stars popular actor and comedian Jim Carrey in multiple roles. It is an engaging fun-filled movie in which the protagonist Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly person, encounters three spirits on the eve of Christmas who actually help him realize the folly of his ways. The Christmas aura can be thoroughly enjoyed in the movie.

Casper’s Haunted Christmas

A 2000 direct-to-video film, the story is amazingly funny. Casper the ghost has a job to scare at least one person before the Christmas. However, Kibosh,  who is the ruler of ghosts hires a look alike of Casper to do the same task. The plot progresses to become hilarious, making sure kids have a ball of a time!

Christmas is here again

A 2007 animated Christmas themed film, it is a great musical animated tale. The story of the film unfolds into an exciting journey of an orphan girl Sophianna, and her unexpected rendezvous with a band of adventurers as they help her recover Santa’s magical toy sack.

Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas

A 1997 animated Christmas musical fantasy film. In this movie the beast is shown to have a deep hatred for the Christmas season, while Beauty makes efforts to change his mind on the matter.

The Polar Express

This 2011 3D computer-animated film is based on the 1985 children’s book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg. On Christmas eve, a young boy sets upon a magical adventure to the North Pole on the Polar Express. His voyage becomes a learning lesson, where he learns about life-values that include friendship, bravery, and the spirit of Christmas.

The Star

A 2017 computer-animated Christian comedy film is actually a perspective about the nativity shown from animals’ point of view. A brave donkey and his animal friends become the heroes of the first Christmas. A brave donkey Bo looks for better life. In his journey,  Bo and his new friends follow a Star that leads them to the site of the first Christmas.

Shrek the Halls

A 2007 computer-animated television film. In this half hour film, the Shrek and other characters put their own spin on holiday traditions which is a visual delight and fun-filled to watch.

Arthur Christmas

This 2011 3D computer animated Christmas comedy is set on Christmas night. The film tells a story about Santa Claus’ clumsy son Arthur Claus who discovers that the Santa’s high-tech ship has failed to deliver a gift to one girl. In response, he vows  to save the girl’s Christmas.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

A 2000 Christmas fantasy comedy film based on Dr. Seuss’s 1957 book of the same name. The story is about a green, revenge-seeking Grinch who plan on ruining the Christmas holiday for all the citizens of the town.

Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer

An animated Christmas movie, it is an amazing story of Young Jake who witnesses his spunky grandma run over by Santa’s reindeer. The protagonist Jake is highly determined to find his missing grandmother and show everyone that Santa Claus was actually at his house that fateful night.
