The Delhi government has issued new directives to private schools pertaining to the sale of books, writing materials, and uniforms, warning them against compelling parents to purchase these items from specific vendors or school-appointed suppliers.
This move hopes to reduce financial burdens on parents and promote transparency within the education system.
The Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued nine mandatory instructions for all private unaided schools. Schools must upload a list of required books and uniform specifications to their official website prior to the start of the academic session. Schools and principals are also instructed to ensure that students and parents are not pressured into purchasing extra study materials beyond the prescribed curriculum.
The DoE will closely monitor compliance with these guidelines and take strict action against any violations.
Education Minister Ashish Sood on Wednesday said that private unaided schools must make the list of prescribed books, educational materials, and other essential material publicly available.
It has been further directed that this information must be displayed on school premises, notice boards, and official websites. Additionally, schools are required to post the list in a public area on their campus. Schools failing to comply will be held accountable.
