Kulbhushan Sharma, president of the National Independent Schools Alliance, makes a direct appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to save India’s 400,000 budget private schools which provide affordable education to a staggering 60 million children. According to Sharma, the Covid-19 pandemic, subsequent national lockdown and fee deferment circulars of state governments have jeoparised the financial stability of budget private schools most of whom haven’t received fees from the month of February onwards. Consequently, their managements are unable to pay teachers salaries endangering the well-being of thousands of households across the country.
