Punjab CM: Sikh gurus, seers, martyrs to be included in school curriculum

September 29, 2023

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced on Thursday that the school curriculum will undergo revisions to impart knowledge about the lives, philosophy, and teachings of renowned Sikh gurus, seers, saints, prophets, and martyrs. Mann emphasized the importance of the state’s youth drawing inspiration from these noble figures and assured that necessary changes would be incorporated into the school syllabus. He made these remarks during a state-level event commemorating Bhagat Singh’s birth anniversary.

Mann expressed his commitment to make Punjab a leader in the country and to fulfill Bhagat Singh’s vision by ensuring the state’s comprehensive development. At the event, he honored Bhagat Singh’s family members and announced plans for a memorial and library at Bhagat Singh’s maternal home near Garhshankar. The museum at Bhagat Singh’s native village in Khatkar Kalan is also being upgraded.

The chief minister stressed the importance of preserving Bhagat Singh’s legacy, stating that his government would work to fulfill the dreams of the legendary martyr. Mann described the event as a celebration of the birth of one of the greatest legends in the world, highlighting Bhagat Singh’s selfless pursuit of freedom for his motherland.

Mann criticized the current state of affairs, noting that corruption, nepotism, and poverty persisted despite the sacrifices made by freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh. He accused those who came to power after the British rule of “plundering the country” even more ruthlessly.

Mann mentioned his government’s efforts to prioritize the interests of Punjab and the people, asserting that past leaders had betrayed the state by prioritizing their personal interests. He also spoke about raising crucial issues like the Satluj Yamuna Link Canal and Chandigarh during a recent meeting of the Northern Zonal Council in Amritsar, reiterating his commitment to safeguard the state’s interests.

The AAP leader called on the people to unite beyond caste and creed to make India the “number one” nation, which he deemed a true tribute to Bhagat Singh and other freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country. Mann encouraged young people to step forward and work towards realizing Bhagat Singh’s vision for the nation.
