A man, identified as Angrez Singh from Fazilka, Punjab, was apprehended for allegedly impersonating his girlfriend, Paramjeet Kaur, during a recruitment examination conducted by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences. The incident occurred on January 7 at DAV Public School in Kotkapura, one of the examination centers for the post of female multipurpose health worker. Singh disguised himself in traditional female attire, including a salwar kameez, stole, and cap, with a clean-shaven face and makeup. He replaced Kaur’s photo on the application form with his own and managed to enter the examination hall.
Officials became suspicious when the photo did not match the candidate’s face, prompting a biometric verification that revealed inconsistencies with the records. Investigation uncovered that Singh had created fake identity documents, including an Aadhaar card, voter card, and I card, all under Paramjeet Kaur’s name. Although Singh claimed Kaur was his relative, they were not related, as confirmed by the police.
Upon receiving a complaint from Dr. Deepak Bhatti, the registrar of BFUHS, an FIR was lodged against Angrez Singh under IPC section 419 (impersonation). Kaur may also be included as a co-accused. Singh, aged 26, is a resident of Saharan Nagar in Fazilka, while Kaur, aged 34, hails from Dhani Munshi Ram village in the same district. Singh was arrested but has been granted bail. Dr. Rajeev Sood, the Vice-Chancellor of BFUHS, stated that Kaur’s paper was canceled, emphasizing the need for a police investigation into the creation of fake identity cards. The university is implementing enhanced security measures, including face identification and biometrics, for future exams. A total of 7,500 candidates participated in the examination at various centers in Faridkot and Ferozepur.
