‘Reopening schools in July the worst decision by govt’

June 3, 2020

A group called Parents Association has recently started an online petition on change.org addressing the MHRD stating that reopening schools in July will be the worst decision by the government. The petition ‘No Schools until Zero Covid Case in the State or until Vaccines are out’ suggests to continue education via e-learning for the new academic year and urges the government not to reopen schools until the COVID cases are completely eradicated or a vaccine is available.

The petition started on May 30 reads, “The parents should fight against this stupidity with tooth n nail, not a single child to be sent to the schools for their own safety. It’s like playing with fire when we ought to douse it with full force.” The petition has already received support from over 4 lakh people.

Parents fear sending their wards to schools and many do not mind if their kids lose an academic year if schools reopen in July. A parent told The Print that it might not be a good idea to reopen schools as children might not be conscious of sanitising hands or constantly maintaining physical distance.
