The framing of charges in the money laundering case linked to the school recruitment scam was postponed on Monday after one of the accused, Sujoy Krishna Bhadra, fell ill and was rushed to the hospital.
Bhadra, who was being escorted to the PMLA court at Bankshall Court, reportedly became dizzy en route and was admitted to SSKM Hospital for treatment. His lawyer informed the court about his health condition, leading the court to reschedule the hearing.
The PMLA court, which is overseeing the investigation into the money trail of the alleged scam, decided to take up the matter again on January 2. The court also directed that Bhadra’s medical report be presented during the next hearing.
Other accused in the case, including Arpita Mukherjee and Kuntal Ghosh, both out on bail, appeared in court as required. Former state education minister Partha Chatterjee was also produced in court. Chatterjee, who is one of the prominent figures in the case, is expected to be released on bail from February 1, 2025, under conditions set by the Supreme Court. The Court has stipulated that the trial court must frame charges and examine vulnerable witnesses by January 30, 2025, as part of the bail conditions.
