Schools, colleges in Mangaluru shut as another murder gets reported

With yet another suspected communal revenge murder being reported in Mangaluru on Thursday night, a holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in the region on Friday. 
 
The commissioner of police of Mangaluru, N Shashi Kumar has asked schools and colleges to remain shut in this region which is edging towards communal disharmony. Holiday has been declared for a day at Panambur, Bajpe, Surathkal and Mulki regions. 
 
The district administration has requested Muslim bodies not to organise a protest as it is a communally sensitive area. Section 144 imposed on Friday and Saturday. 
The police commissioner, in a video statement said that 19 check posts have been set up across the city to check vehicular movement. No alcohol will be sold. 
 
He added that 10 pm onwards, no one allowed to walk aimlessly on the roads. If found travelling or walking without a valid reason, they will be questioned and vehicles seized. 
 
“This is a location of importance for education and health. Day to day lives will be severely impacted in case of untoward happenings. Daily wagers will suffer if frequent closures become necessary. Hence we urger people to maintain calm while assuring that we will investigate in an unbiased manner,” Kumar said.
