The 55th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) held in Zurich, Switzerland from July 16 to July 25, 2023, witnessed outstanding performances by Indian students, who garnered one gold and three silver medals at the prestigious competition.
This year, 348 students from 87 countries, along with two teams under the IChO flag, vied for excellence in the IChO.
The Indian students who earned laurels for the country are :
1. Krish Srivastava (Noida, Uttar Pradesh) – Gold Medalist
2. Avaneesh Bansal (Mumbai, Maharashtra) – Silver Medalist
3. Aditi Singh (Ahmedabad, Gujarat) – Silver Medalist
4. Malay Kedia (Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh) – Silver Medalist
The team was accompanied by Prof. Anupa Kumbhar (S. P. Pune University) – Head Mentor, Prof. N. Manoj (CUSAT, Kochi) – Mentor, Dr. Shraeddha Tiwari (ICT, Mumbai) – Scientific Observer, Prof. Gulshanara Shaikh (ex St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai) – Scientific Observer.
The winners and mentors are being felicitated today at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), a National Centre of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai.
The HBCSE remains the nodal Centre for training and selecting students to represent India at various International Olympiads in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy & Astrophysics. The National Olympiad Examinations conducted by HBCSE serves as the gateway for final team selection.
