For over a decade, the students and teachers of a government high school in Banda district of Uttar Pradesh were braving harsh temperatures, as the 12-room building had no power connection. Despite numerous requests and letters to public representatives, local administration, and power department officials, the school was left without electricity. But on Saturday, January 28, the school finally got its own power supply, thanks to the efforts of the teachers and principal.

In a show of determination and solidarity, the teachers and principal, Dr. Ravi, donated money from their salaries to cover the cost of the electricity connection and transformer. In total, they collected Rs 1,50,000, of which Rs 80,000 was paid to the power department and the rest was used to purchase a 200-meter cable and get the wiring done.

The principal, who joined the school in 2010, shared his frustration with the lack of response from public representatives and officials, despite over 20 letters written on the matter. He was thrilled to finally see the transformer installed on January 25. The supply however became operational on Saturday.

The school, which currently has 253 students, was provided with ceiling fans by the education department, but they couldn’t be installed until now. The students will finally be able to enjoy a comfortable learning environment, with power for the lights and fans.

The self-help solution by the teachers and principal serves as a shining example of determination and solidarity in the face of adversity. Despite facing obstacles and receiving no help from outside sources, they took matters into their own hands and brought power back to the school. The students, teachers, and staff can finally look forward to a brighter future, with the basic necessity of electricity finally met.
