Uttar Pradesh schools opened on Monday, October 19, 2020, after a gap of seven months caused by the coronavirus pandemic. According to Additional Chief Secretary (Secondary Education) Aradhana Shukla said students of classes 9 to 12 attended the schools. The classes were run in two shifts due to the Covid-19 protocol in the state, she said, adding that arrangements were made for sanitisers and thermal scanning at the schools.
According to official sources, 28,474 secondary education schools, parents of 33.71 students (34,68,933 out of 1,02,89,154) gave their consent to send their wards to schools.
Earlier, Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma had said, “In the first phase, Classes 9 to 12 may start in these schools. The schools must run in two shifts of smaller durations, to ensure student safety.” In the first shift, students of classes 9 and 10 may come to school, while in the second shift, classes 11 and 12 students may attend classes, he added. A maximum of 50 per cent students should be called in a day and remaining 50 per cent the following day.
“Only 50% of the total students will be called in a single shift, the rest will be called the next day. Students wanting to attend classes will be allowed only after parents furnish written approval. “Initially, classes IX onwards will be resumed amid strict Covid safety protocol,” said Sharma.
