Visva Bharati University has announced that it will conduct its Class X and XII examinations of 2021.
The university’s pre-degree examination and school certificate examination equivalent to Class XII and X respectively will be held online in view of the Covid-19 situation, a notice issued by the university said.
Students will be tested through viva-voce using Zoom, WhatsApp and other audiovisual links. Other details of conducting the exam will be notified later.
The pre-degree exams will commence from July 5. The decision to hold the examination was taken at a meeting between vice-chancellor Bidyut Chakrabarty and senior officials of the university.
A section of students had appealed to the authorities on June 6 to cancel the exams citing the difficulties they were facing in doing their revisions because of Covid-19.
Visva Bharati, a Central university runs two schools Patha Bhavana and Siksha Satra and conducts its own school-leaving examinations.
The class X and XII examinations of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the state boards of West Bengal (Madhyamik and Higher Secondary) have been cancelled.
Some teachers of Visva-Bharati appreciated the decision taken by the authorities to conduct the examination through the online mode.
“ Both the Centre and the state have decided to scrap the Class X and XII examinations of 2021. We are happy that the Visva-Bharati board has insisted on holding the tests for the interest of students,” said a teacher of the university.
“The Pre-Degree Examinations 2021 of Patha Bhavana and Siksha Satra will commence from July 5 through online (viva-voce) mode using Zoom link/WhatsApp/other audio-visual link. This will be followed by the School Certificate Examinations 2021,” said the notice.
The university will shortly announce the venue, schedule and modalities of the exams.
“The schedule, venue and other modalities are subject to change, depending on the pandemic situation and restrictions, if any imposed by the Government,” the notice said.Campus, News
