Budget 2021: Mission Poshan 2.0 launched to achieve universal nutrition

According to the Union Budget 2021, Mission Poshan 2.0  has been launched by merging the supplementary nutrition programme (SNP) and the Poshan Abhiyaan. This will help strengthen nutritional content, delivery, outreach, and outcome.

The SNP is delivered through Anganwadis, or early childhood care and education centres.

While presenting her third budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, “To strengthen nutritional content, delivery, outreach, and outcome, we will merge the Supplementary Nutrition Programme and the Poshan Abhiyaan and launch the Mission Poshan 2.0. We shall adopt an intensified strategy to improve nutritional outcomes across 112 aspirational districts.”

Out of a total of Rs 24,435 crore assigned to the Women Child Development (WCD) Ministry, Rs 20,105 crore has been allocated to Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0.

Poshan 2.0 scheme in an umbrella scheme covering the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Anganwadi Services, Poshan Abhiyaan, Scheme For Adolescent Girls and National Creche Scheme.

Furthermore, as part of the social infrastructure, the government is set to launch Jal Jeevan Mission Urban for which Rs 2.87 lakh crore has been allotted over five years. This will ensure universal water supply in all 4378 urban bodies with 2.86 crore household tap connections and liquid waste management in 5,000 AMRUT cities.
