March 25, 2024

On the inaugural day of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) or state board class 10 exams in Karnataka, two instances of malpractice were reported in two districts across the state. These incidents occurred in Yadgir and Vijayapura districts on Monday.

In Yadgir, CCTV footage from an examination center revealed students communicating with each other during the first language paper. Upon examination of the footage, it was discovered that students were involved in malpractice. This incident took place in a class with two invigilators at the Government (Boys) PU College in Hunasagi Taluk. Sahebagowda Ukkali, an assistant teacher from Government Higher Primary School, Yevur, Surpur, and Hanumantharaya from Government Junior School, Jhadadakera have been suspended in connection with this incident.

In another instance from Vijayapura, details of malpractice have been reported, although the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board is yet to provide further information.

As per the official communication from the deputy director of public instruction in Yadgir, action has been initiated against the suspended teacher, Sahebagowda Ukkali, under section 10 of the Karnataka Public Service Rules 1957. Suspension entails the suspension of salary but entitlement to subsistence allowance pending departmental inquiry.

Furthermore, a second teacher, Hanamantraya from Govt Junior School, Jhadadakera, has also been suspended due to involvement in malpractice during the SSLC exams.

Despite these incidents, 98.41% of students who registered for the exams appeared on the first day across the state. However, Raichur district witnessed the highest number of absentees, with only 95.13% attendance.
