Korean language introduced as regular class at 3 Indian schools

The Korean Cultural Centre India announced that its initiative of introducing Korean language in Delhi NCR and Manipur region is extended to regular curriculum in schools. With the support of Ministry of Education and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Republic of Korea, Korean Cultural Centre India has launched regular the language class at three schools in Delhi and Manipur.

Through the initiated project, KCCI could reach out with the basics of Korean language to 468 students of 14 schools since July last year. As the pilot program has successfully finished, now the centre pursues and extends adoption of the language in CBSE curriculum.

In the time of the lockdown, the regular class has started in online platform. ASN Senior Secondary School and Greenway Modern School in Delhi opened the class with 87 students from 6th grade, three days a week. Mangal Kids School will resume its regular class after lockdown.

As the bilateral relationship has strengthened in politics and business, learning Korean language will enhance future job opportunities. Additionally, students can also explore higher education opportunities in Korea which will help them to develop and adapt global perspective.

Kim Kum-pyoung, Director of Korean Cultural Centre India, said “We witnessed mesmerizing and passionate response from the students who took the Korean language class last year. It was the first step to adapt Korean and Hindi in the regular curriculum of each countries.” He added, “I am convinced that those who learn Korean language in regular curriculum will contribute a lot in the bilateral relationship after graduation.”

Thanks to its pop culture, K- Drama and K-Pop, the language has been gaining global popularity in recent years. It’s not only the universities that witness the growing number of the students learning the language. Furthermore, the language has been included in Baccalaureate in 2017, which is a French national academic qualification.
