NEET was imposed on TN, exemption for TN will happen: Stalin

November 27, 2023

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin emphasized on Sunday that NEET had been imposed on the state, resulting in the degradation of its medical infrastructure.

He firmly stated that Tamil Nadu would work towards an exemption with the support of the public. Addressing the 4th state conference of the Doctors’ Association for Equality (DASE) virtually, Stalin recalled the tragic suicides of medical aspirants in the state, allegedly due to the imposition of the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET), which was perceived as an attempt to undermine the established medical infrastructure.

Despite potential resistance, Stalin affirmed that NEET exemption is the state’s goal and will be achieved through public support. He highlighted the anti-NEET signature campaign initiated by the DMK’s youth wing, student wing, and medical wing, characterizing it as a “people’s movement.” The Tamil Nadu government has consistently passed assembly resolutions seeking NEET exemption, citing the test’s contradiction to principles of social justice.

In his address, Stalin credited his late father and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for establishing robust health and medical infrastructure in Tamil Nadu during past DMK administrations.
