October 5, 2023

Punjab’s Education Minister, Harjot Singh Bains, announced the appointment of 1,378 security guards for all senior secondary government schools. These guards have been assigned to ensure the safety of students and to prevent them from leaving school premises during study hours. Schools with more than 500 students will have security guards stationed at their entry and exit points. These guards will also maintain visitor records and ensure students have permission from the principal before leaving during school hours.

Additionally, the state government is investing in the transformation of the education sector, allocating Rs 250 crore for constructing boundary walls around government schools. Around 2,000 campus managers will be appointed to oversee school building maintenance. Funds are also being provided to schools for cleanliness, ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 50,000 per month based on student enrollment.
