Student leaders demand reopening of educational institutes

Tamil Nadu: Classes for final year UG students to start from Dec 7

The Tamil Nadu government on Monday, November 30, 2020, announced the reopening of final year undergraduate courses in colleges from December 7. Courses including arts, science, technology, engineering, agriculture fisheries and veterinary will begin physical classes. Hostels too have been allowed to permit students.

Medical and allied health science colleges will reopen for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses from December 7. However, the courses for the students getting admission for the current academic 2020-21 are allowed from February 1. 

Regarding reopening of schools in the state, the Tamil Nadu school education minister KA Sengottaiyan had earlier stated CM Palaniswami will decide on the same. He added that his department did not receive any complaints from the parents about private schools charging higher fees. “We are ready to take necessary action against the school management if they charge higher fees, ” he said.

The minister added that the suggestion meetings with parents will be conducted with guidelines prescribed by the state government. “The schools will be fumigated completely before conducting such meetings,” the minister said.
