Overview

Army Public School, Nehru Road, Lucknow is a coeducational day cum residential school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Started in 1981, the school aims to cater to the educational requirements of the wards of Army personnel. Army Public School, Nehru Road, Lucknow functions under the aegis of the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) and is managed and governed by Headquarters Central Command. The school offers education from class I through XII with more than 110 teachers.

Campus

The 14 acre school campus offers a well stocked library, well equipped labs for science and computers, multipurpose hall, spacious classrooms, dance rooms, music rooms, canteen and an infirmary.

Sports infrastructure includes a gymnasium, badminton court, grounds for Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, fields for hockey, football and cricket, courts for basketball and volleyball, indoor games room for table tennis and athletics track among others.

Academics

In the primary school (I-V) the subjects taught are English, Hindi, mathematics, environmental studies (EVS), GK, computer, art of healthy and productive living (AHPL) and environmental education (EE). In the middle school (VI-X) the subjects taught are English, Hindi, mathematics, science (physics, chemistry and biology), social science (civics/economics, history and geography), physical education, work experience, general knowledge and Sanskrit for classes VI-VIII.

At the senior secondary level (XI-XII) the school offers the following streams:-

PCM: English, math, physics, chemistry as compulsory subjects

Computer science / Hindi / physical education / economics / biotechnology /entrepreneurship as elective

PCB English, physics, chemistry, biology as compulsory subjects

Mathematics/ physical education/ biotechnology / psychology / entrepreneurship/ Hindi as elective

Commerce: English, accounts, business studies, economics as compulsory subjects

Mathematics / Hindi/ Physical Education/Entrepreneurship as elective

Humanities: English, history, geography as compulsory subjects

Psychology/ entrepreneurship or economics / Hindi / physical education as elective

The school has various extracurricular activities such as Hindi and English debate and elocution, spin-a-yarn, Just-a-Minute, what’s-the-good-word, dramatics, quiz, visual arts, performing arts, carpentry, music and dance etc.

The school introduced a theme based learning technique – Value Based Integrated Learning or VBIL – in classes I to V in the year 2007, through VBIL all subjects are co-related with the help of an idea or theme

General Information

Admission

The school admits children of serving Army personnel (including DSC), children of Army widows and TA personnel who have a minimum of 10 years embodied service, children of Ex-serviceman, DSC personnel retired with pension from DSC, children of serving Air Force and Naval personnel, children of civilians paid out of Defence Estimates, Para Military Forces including Coast Guards, MES, GREF and TA (when not embodied and other children.

The age eligibility for admission to class I is five years. Admission to any class except class I is granted only the candidate clears the pre-admission test and presents a valid transfer certificate from the previous institution. Registration for fresh admission opens normally from February 15. For fresh admission, registration forms duly filled must be submitted to the office before the closing date and a receipt obtained for the same. The schedule for the entrance exams will be available on the school Notice Board.

The school grants admission to children of serving army personnel coming on transfer from out station at any time of the year subject to availability of seat and quality and qualifying in the entrance examination.
