Overview

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram is a co-educational day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Founded by Dr. K.M. Munshi, the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB) has its main office in Mumbai and successfully manages its academic institutions nationwide. Established in 1977, Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram (BRV) is a prestigious learning centre managed by the Bhavan’s Chennai centre. The spacious campus of BRV was donated to BVB Chennai in 1972 by V. Pattabiraman, former vice-chairman of the Chennai centre and a great promoter of cricket in Tamil Nadu. The school has an aggregate enrollment of 3,200 students from LKG to grade XII and a faculty strength of 156 teachers.

Campus

The five-acre school’s three-storey structure is equipped with separate computer labs for primary, middle and senior secondary schools with 30 personal computers in each lab, air-conditioned staff rooms, three audio visual rooms and an online testing centre equipped with over 40 computers, a primary science lab, three science labs for middle and senior secondary students, a language lab and a math lab. The school has a well-stocked library with 16,000 books, 30 journal subscriptions and an 800-seat auditorium to conduct cultural events. The sports infrastructure of the school includes a huge playground, net practice for cricket, four volleyball courts, a basketball court, two spacious squash courts, a badminton court and a room for chess and carrom. Professional coaches mentor students after school hours in several sports. 

Academics

The school follows the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) curriculum with English as the medium of instruction. Students are expected to learn three languages from class VI- VIII, one of which must be Hindi either as a second language or third language. Co-curricular activities include clubs like young Indian club, centre for overall development excellence, interact club, debate club and eco club. The school also organizes various camps, trekking activities and nature walks. The after-school activities at the school include yoga, dance classes, squash, cricket, karate, shuttle, basketball, football, volleyball, handball, chess, handwriting and spoken Sanskrit. The teacher student ratio at Vidyashram is maintained at 1:40.

Admission

Applications for admissions to classes above grade I would be subject to available vacancies and screening tests. Students newly admitted must promptly produce the transfer certificate and conduct certificate from the school last attended. The school authorities reserve the right to refuse admission without assigning any reason. The authorities may also reserve the right to expel students whose conduct / progress is unsatisfactory. For admission into lower kindergarten, applications have to be submitted before the first week of December. Admission applications are available online on the school’s website. 

Fees: Tuition fees vary from Rs.18,000- 25,000 per annum.

Achievement

The BRV Yi Net (Young Indians – a Confederation of Indian Industry initiative for students) was adjudged the second-best Yi Net in the country. The school won the national award for its Neighbourhood Project. 

Moreover, in the Design for Change School Contest 2010, the school’s entry was adjudged among the top 20. The school’s roller-skating champion K. Aarathy has won 97 medals in various national and international skating events. 

Lakshmi Chidambaram of class III bagged the Asian title in chess in the under seven category (2010-11) and V. Kiran Raj of class III stood second in the All-India Karate Championship (2010-11).

Accommodation

Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram is a day school, hence hostel facilities are not provided.
