Overview

The National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal was established in 1997 by an Act by the State Legislature of Madhya Pradesh in 1997.

NLIU is recognized by the Bar Council of India, and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities. The patron of the university is the Honourable Chief Justice of India and it works closely with the High Court of Madhya Pradesh, as well as the neighboring National Judicial Academy.

NLIU inducts around 80 undergraduates every year through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), for the B.A L.L.B (Hons) degree. The university also offers LLM and PhD programmes.

NLIU hosts a Centre for Women and Law, Refresher Courses for Law Teachers, an Institute of Comparative Law and Jurisprudence, a Centre for Human Rights Education, and a Continuing and Distance Education Programs.

NLIU boasts an efficient placement cell and prominent companies visit the NLIU campus each year, such as Amarchand Mangaldas (Delhi & Mumbai), Jyoti Sagar & Assoc. (JSA), Bajpai & Co., Data Access, Holla & Holla & Patel & Nettar, Exim Bank, Singh & Singh Advocates (New Delhi) and Enviro-Legal Defence Firm (ELDF).

Admission

NLIU admits 120 students to its B.A.LL.B (Hons.) program every year, and 50 percent of the seats are reserved for students from Madhya Pradesh and the remaining for students from rest of the country. Admission to this integrated five- year program is based on an All India Entrance Test conducted each year in May. Students with 55 percent or more in the 10+2 or its equivalent are eligible for admission into the course.

Admissions to the L.L.M. course are also done on the basis of a valid score in the All India Entrance Test.

Fees:

Admission fee for B.A L.L.B (Hons) course is 6,000 (one time) and the tuition fee is 96,000 while the annual tuition fee for the L.L.M course is 65,000.

NLIU Bhopal ranked No.6 among top law schools in India in the EducationWorld C-fore Survey 2013.

Accommodation

There are two hostels, one for boys and one for girls. Admission is based on a valid score in an entrance test. Located within walking distance of the Academic Block, the hostels are easily accessible to students.

Each hostel is equipped with all the necessary amenities including a common room, indoor games room, TV room, internet facility, mess and dining hall. The university arranges transport for students to travel to the city, back and forth.
