Overview

DPS, Vijayawada is a co-ed day-cum-boarding school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Established in 2007, DPS, Vijaywada is a franchisee school of the well-reputed DPS Society, which has a network of 150 DPS schools countrywide.

The objective of the school is to help students attain their fullest academic potential and empower them to face challenges on social, economic and cultural fronts. It is fully committed to providing holistic education and nurturing global citizens. The school uses Educomp’s Smart Class to provide digitally enabled teaching.

Campus

DPS Vijayawada is sited on an aesthetically designed campus. All classrooms are air-conditioned, spacious, and eco-friendly. They are architecturally designed as octagonal rooms to reduce the effect of heat and humidity. Moreover, the school provides well-equipped laboratories, a well-stocked library, and dependable security with qualified, trained guards, CCTVs and fully electrified main compound wall fencing.

Other facilities include a science park, teacher’s resource room, music room, art and craft room, and dance studio. Sports facilities include a skating rink, tennis court, cricket net practice, basketball courts and play park.

Academics

DPS Vijayawada is affiliated with the CBSE board, New Delhi, and offers education from nursery to class X. Teaching is through projects and academic activities such as role play, group discussions, paper presentations, debates, etc. The school follows the semester system from class I to IV. The first semester ends in November and the second in March. From classes V to IX, three mid-term and three terminal examinations are conducted. Besides these, ‘cycle tests’ are conducted at regular intervals. All question papers are set in the CBSE Board exam pattern.

Educomp’s Smart Class provides multimedia and interactive learning to students.

Extracurricular

Students have a time set apart for activities and sports on weekdays – 3:20 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Coaching is provided in table tennis, basketball, cricket, chess, roller skating, hockey and volleyball. Singing, art and craft, karate and other activities are also encouraged. Students participate in inter-school competitions and literary events.

Admission

The age for nursery admission is 3.6 years. The Application Form, along with the school’s profile, syllabus for screening assessment, and the other details should be obtained in person from the school’s office.

The child needs to go through a Screening Assessment (for classes I to X). An interactive session is held to assess gross and fine motor skills for nursery and preparatory classes.

Accommodation

DPS provides separate hostel facilities for boys and girls. The boarding houses are close to the main building. Each hostel accommodates 250 students. The hostel is air-conditioned and designed to provide ventilation and natural light. Running hot water is provided in all bathrooms and washbasins.

A full time nurse attends during school hours and a doctor is on call for emergencies. A room with four beds is available for children who are sick and require continuous medication and monitoring.
