Overview

Delhi Public School (DPS), Vishakapatnam, is a coeducational day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Founded in 1985, DPS Vishakapatnam is a member school of the DPS Society. The school offers education from class I to XII and boasts 1759 students and 62 faculty members.

The school follows the motto “Service before Self.”

Campus

The school campus sprawls over 13 acres hosting a well-stocked library, 44 well-ventilated classrooms, and labs for physics, chemistry, biology, math, computer science and home science. The school also has a dance room, music rooms, medical room, guidance & counseling center and a book shop.

Academics

The school follows the CBSE curriculum and lays strong emphasis on all academic subjects. At the +2 level, the school offers the following combinations:

Science: English, math, physics, chemistry, biology, economics, computer science.

Commerce: English, economics, accountancy, business studies, math/informatics practices.

For classes I to V, the school follows the continuous assessment system and for classes VI to VIII, the school follows the two semester system (I semester from April to September and II semester from October to March). For classes IX – XII, there are two exams in a year. As part of CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Assessment), weekly tests on various subjects are conducted every Monday. The school also conducts remedial classes for slow learners and low achievers identified on the basis of their performance in the Monday tests/semester exam. Extra classes are held on Saturdays for classes IX-XII.

The school organizes educational tours to places of historic and scientific interest. Teachers are offered professional enrichment programs in subjects like value education, addressing adolescence, tackling slow learners, etc. The school also offers Art of Living classes called ‘ART EXCEL’ for the age group of 8 – 14 years, Youth Empowerment Seminar (YES) for the age group of 14 – 18 years and Basic Course of Art of Living for teachers and parents. Besides these, the school also provides intensive coaching for students opting for competitive exams like JEE, NEET, NTSE, NSTSE, All Olympiad Foundation (SOF), Unified Council, SLSTSE, and UCO.

Extracurricular

Students participate in inter-house and inter-school competitions in debate, elocution, essay writing, painting, singing, dance, and quiz.

Students are encouraged to join the Maths Club, Science Club, Eco Club, Quiz Club, Aerobics/Karate Club, Art Club, Music Club, Interact Club, Cookery/Handicrafts Club, Dance Club, Sports Club, Interior Decoration Club, Language Clubs (Hindi, English & Telugu) and Heritage Club.

Students are coached in throw ball, chess, football, cricket, basketball and athletics.
