Overview

Atomic Energy Central School (AECS) No.3, Tarapur, Thane is a coeducational day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Inaugurated on the November 18, 1990, the school was set up to impart quality education to the wards of employees of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and its constituent units situated at Tarapur. The school is managed by Atomic Energy Education Society (AEES) which is an autonomous body under DAE, Government of India.

Initially the school offered education till class IV and started its expansion from the year 2003. At present the school offers education from pre-preparatory through class XII.

Campus

The school campus spreads over 4.96 acres, of which 0.9 acres constitutes the built-up area. The school library features a collection of around 90,00 books including general, reference books and text books and electronic media (CDs, DVDs).The library subscribes to 25 magazines and 5 newspapers. The school also has a well equipped computer lab and science lab. The Satellite Interactive Terminal (SIT) lab of the school has been fully equipped with the electronic and computer peripherals supplied by AEES.

The playground has a basketball court, two volleyball courts and a 200 meter athletics track with a stage and spectator gallery. It also has facilities for shot-put, discuss-throw and long jump and adventure park with 15 play equipments.

Academics

The school follows curriculum prescribed by the CBSE and offers schooling from pre preparatory through class XII. Apart for core emphasis on academics the school also focuses on various co-curricular activities such as debate, essay writing, elocution, music, art and craft, dance and various sports activities.

Admission

Admission form for pre preparatory can be either procured from the school office or downloaded from the AEES website www.aees.gov.in in the last week of January. Duly filled in admission forms with all supporting documents must be submitted by the first and second week of February.

However Rs 25 (or as mentioned in the admission circular) will be charged at the time of submission of application if it is downloaded from the website.

Eligibility

Children of employees of the Constituent units, Projects, Aided Institutes, Public Sector undertakings under full control of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) are eligible for admission in Atomic Energy Central Schools and Junior Colleges.

Admissions for Non-DAE children are not assured and subject to availability of seats. Admissions to non DAE children in Preparattory and class I are based on order of merit and on specific recommendation of LMC Chairman. Non-DAE students seeking admission for class II and above have to write an admission test.

The minimum age criterion (born on or before) for a student seeking admission to pre-preparatory is 3 years as on March 31, for preparatory the child should be 4 years as on March 31 and for admission in class I the child must be 5 years as on March 31.

Achievement

28 AECS Thane students appeared in the UN information examination held on August 25, 2012 and 22 students were awarded with certificates.

Accommodation

Being a day school, AECS Thane does not provide accommodation facility.
