Overview

Aatman Academy, Thane is a special needs school affiliated with the state board, offering education to students from classes V-X. Founded on October 10, 2010, the institutions is a customised learning and specialised instruction school for students with learning disabilities, difficulties and differences. The school is promoted and managed by Aatman Educational Society-a registered trust. The school founded on 10th October 2010 and began operations on 16th June 2011, with just three students.

Currently, in its eleventh academic year, Aatman offers a learning space to over 80 children not only from Thane but from as far as Kalyan, Mira Road and Mulund, Bhandup and Kanjur Marg.

Academics

Aatman Academy, Thane adopts the State board curriculum and has witnessed the successful passing out of a total of 115 Std. X students in the last nine academic years (2012-2021). With only school support along with in-house remedial therapy and counselling, students have achieved the daunting task of scoring from digit scores to distinction. In all the nine academic years the school has seen a 100% result with the average minimum score being 60 % and the maximum being 85%. These results have been the fruition of the intensive efforts taken by the team of learning facilitators, special educators and counsellors at Aatman. At every step the core philosophy of Aatman has been to provide learners with whatever they need to improve their learning and never compromise on the respect and sensitivity they deserve while doing so.

Aatman’s curricular model is dynamic and continually customized to support the learning needs of each child. All the learning that takes place within the curriculum framework of Aatman Academy is based on hands-on and experiential work. The IBL-UDL Approach forms the basis of class transactions till Grade VIII. Children decide what they what to learn, why they want to learn it and how they’d like to navigate through their learning.

The curriculum exposes the learners to wide variety of topics and experiences including languages, mathematics, social sciences, science and technologies, computer applications, heath hygiene physiology and home science, music, dance, drama, indoor games and activities and a variety of vocational skills. The curriculum is also therapy-based, comprising meditation, yoga, dance movement therapy, arts based therapy, drum therapy and animal assisted intervention.
