Overview

Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore (ASEC), is a constitute institution of the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University, headquartered at Coimbatore and with campuses at Amritapuri and Bengaluru. The university was founded in 1994 by the prominent humanitarian Mata Amritanandmayi. Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore (ASCE, estb.1994) offers graduate (B.Tech) and postgraduate (M.Tech) programmes in various disciplines through its seven departments – aerospace engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science engineering, electrical engineering and electronics engineering. In addition, it also offers programs leading to the MCA degree. PhD is offered in Engineering and Sciences. All the courses offered here are approved by the New Delhi-based All India Council of Technical Education.
The institute has its own placement and training cell that enables faculty and students to stay updated on industry-trends, helps the students get internships as well as placement in leading organisations such as Tata Consultancy Services, Infoys, Capgemini, Cognizant Technology Solutions to name a few. Placement statistics indicate 100 percent placement for engineering graduates.

Campus

Amrita University started with the Amrita School of Engineering at an obscure village named Ettimadai, at the foothills of Bouluvanpatty ranges of the Western Ghats in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. It took off with 120 students and 13 faculty members. Today, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham boasts five campuses in three different states of India with a student population of over 12,000 and faculty strength of nearly 1500. Over 120 UG, PG and doctoral programs are offered.

The Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore shares the 400 acre lush green, organically landscaped campus with the Amrita School of Business and Department of Social Work and Communication. Facilities available on campus include a dispensary with round-the clock medical services, wi-fi enabled buildings, modern well-equipped laboratories, 13 computer centres laid out scientifically, a basic shopping complex, canteen that serves hygienic food, facilities for indoor and outdoor games including a swimming pool, three gymnasiums, football grounds and a well-equipped central library.

The wi-fi enabled library spread over a carpet area of 81,000 square feet at ASEC features 59,000 books, subscription to 534 national and international periodicals, 4,500 CD and DVDs, 7,000 reference books on various disciplines and access to various online resources such as the digital library of the State University of New York at Buffalo.

General Information

Admission

BE programme aspirants should have passed the Higher Secondary (Plus Two) examination from a recognized Board or its equivalent, securing 60 percent marks or more in Mathematics, 55 percent or more separately in Physics and Chemistry with an aggregate of minimum 60 percent in the three subjects. Eligible candidates are required to write the entrance tests conducted by the university. Candidates with a three year Diploma in Engineering with minimum 60 percent marks, awarded by any State Board of Technical Education or its equivalent too are eligible to apply.

Seat allotment through counseling is based on the eligibility and rank obtained by the candidate in the Amrita Entrance Examination – Engineering.

Admission to the M.Tech and MCA programmes is based on a test conducted by the university, followed by technical interview. Candidates with valid GATE scores are given preference for admission into M.Tech programmes.

Fees

For B.Tech programme the annual fee is Rs. 1.72 lakh. Rs. 11,500 needs to be paid at the time of admission.

Achievement

In a survey of nearly 1500 AICTE-approved engineering colleges in India, Outlook (June 2008) ranked the Amrita School of Engineering No.21 among private engineering colleges in India. Considering placements alone, the institute was ranked No.11.

Accommodation

The college houses eight hostels in the campus which can accommodate 3,500 students (boys and girls).
