Army Institute of Law (AIL), Mohali, was established in 1999 under the aegis of Army Welfare Education Society (AWES). The institute is affiliated with Punjabi University, Patiala and approved by the Bar Council of India. AIL is considered one of the best institutes imparting legal education in the country. The institute offers a 5-year degree course in law after 10+2, primarily for the wards of serving and ex-servicemen of the Indian Army. However, 20 per cent of the seats is reserved for civilians. Out of this, 15 per cent is reserved for Punjab residents and 5 per cent for all India civil category.
The institute hosts amenities such as moot court hall, legal aid cell, a state-of-the-art computer laboratory equipped with 60 P-IV nodes on LAN system with free internet broadband access, a well-stocked library, Abhimanyu hall, cafeteria, conference hall, multipurpose hall, MI room, video conference room, transport and seminar hall.
The institute offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law (a five-year degree course). The AIL learning process is interactive with open discussion, assignments, seminars, projects, conferences, and workshops. Qualified, experienced faculty members facilitate learning and understanding of the legal system.
Eligibility: A candidate who has passed 10+2 examination from Punjab School Education Board or any other equivalent examination recognized as such by the Punjabi University, Patiala, securing at least 45 percent marks (40 percent in case of SC/ST candidates) vide Punjabi University Letter No.216468/Meeting-4 dated 7 May 2004. He/she should not have completed 21 years on July 1 of the year of admission. The selection is based on Common Entrance Test held by the university.
