Do it Yourself

Funky Jeans

Use your creativity to transform your staid pair of jeans into funky trousers bearing your personal style statement. Here are some great ideas to embellish your jeans:

Colourful dangler. Cut a hole on the left corner of the jean’s front left pocket or the flap of a pocket. Get a few threads of wool of different colours. Choose your colour combination and plait three strands with three strings of wool in each strand. Make a knot at the bottom. Add beads and tiny bells and tie another knot. Then cut the ends neatly. Take the top end and thread it through the hole in your jeans pocket. Put two knots inside to secure it in place. Your dangler will sway as you walk.

Coordinated accessories. Next time you buy a pair of earrings, pick up an extra pair. Make a hole in the pocket of your jeans. You can put hook-style earrings through it to match your accessories. Also you can thread chains with pendants through the hole and put a knot inside.

Stick-on design. Get a length of Velcro stitched onto the leg of your jeans in the shape of a rectangle. Then make designs using 3D or puff-on fabric colours on a piece of cloth of a different colour, making sure the corners are hemmed in. Fix the other side of the Velcro to the back of this in the same shape as the part on the jeans. Now attach it to the jeans. This way, you can protect the artwork from frequent washing and change designs whenever you like.

A hole with beads. Cut a hole in your jeans at the knee area. Then use a big needle and a 6-string thick piece of embroidery thread of a contrasting colour to put large stitches through the two ends of the hole. Thread beads and sequins in between, you will have a hole with coloured thread and beads running across it.
