Bangalore University on alert after leopard sighted on campus

January 13, 2023

Bangalore University’s Jnanabharati Campus is on high alert after videos and social media posts began surfacing about a leopard on prowl on campus.

“One of the researchers at the varsity reportedly found a leopard along with cubs on the campus on Wednesday. The authorities were alerted immediately,” said a source at the varsity.

The incident took place in the morning when the researcher raised an alert, drawing the attention of some others on campus who also saw the leopard. Sources also said that even morning walkers on the campus also sighted the leopard.

Later, the university’s vice chancellor issued a circular, asking students to be cautious and ensure that officials must immediately be brief if there are any leopard sightings on campus.

“In view of social media posts and media reports emerging about leopards being sighted on campus, students and staff have been asked to stay alert. Especially those residing on campus have been advised not to venture out after dark. Should anyone spot the wild cat, authorities must be alerted immediately,” read the circular.

However, there has been no suspension of classes or closure of the campus in the wake of the same.

It may be recollected that in December 2022 in Bengaluru, residents around Turahalli, Kengeri and Yelahanka had reported sighting the leopard. In yet another recent video that is viral on social media, a leopard is seen venturing into the CFTRI campus in Mysuru.
