The West Bengal College Service Commission on Wednesday informed a division bench of Calcutta High Court that it will not be possible for the commission to file an affidavit stating the full merit list with the marks of candidates seeking job of assistant professors within the deadline as ordered by the single bench of Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay last week.
The Calcutta High Court on September 26 had directed the state college service commission to file an affidavit within ten days stating the full details of the candidates including the marks scored by them in the tests conducted for appointing college teachers. Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay had given the directive following a petition by one Monalisha Ghosh, who had alleged that the commission had published the names and registration numbers of the empanelled candidates but it had not announced the marks obtained by them. The petitioner sought transparency in the panel.
Justice Gangopadhyay had directed the commission to file the affidavit within October 6.
The counsel representing the state college service commission, Kishore Dutta today drew the attention of Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Uday Kumar stating that it will not be possible to prepare the merit list with the scores of the candidates within such a short time.
The division bench today granted permission to the commission to file the appeal and the case is likely to be heard on Thursday (October 5).
Justice Gangopadhyay while passing the order had said that it was surprising that the commission act does not provide the details of drawing up a panel for recruiting teachers. He had also reminded that the former chairman of the commission, Subiresh Bhattacharya is now in jail in connection with the school job scam.
The commission which recruits assistant professors for state-aided colleges in Bengal had issued the notification to appoint teachers in the post of assistant professors in 2020. The panel of candidates was published this year.
