Two women teachers sustained burn injuries after a fire broke out at a primary school in Howrah district, West Bengal, on Thursday morning during the preparation of the mid-day meal, police reported.
While some students were present at the Bhattanagar school in the Liluah area, they were in a different part of the compound at the time of the incident.
Two fire tenders extinguished the blaze within an hour, according to the police.
The injured teachers, including Headmistress Tapasi Goswami, were hospitalized.
A police officer mentioned that only a few students had arrived at the school when the fire was noticed around 6:30 in the morning.
A gas leak from an LPG cylinder is suspected to be the cause of the fire.
