May 12, 2021
2850 MBBS graduates to be hired in rural areas Funds worth Rs I,716 crore have been approved by the Bihar cabinet from the state’s share for the payment of salaries to teachers working under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). The cabinet also cleared the proposal of compulsory appointment of MBBS graduates from nine government medical colleges on contractual terms. The proposal had planned to create 2850 posts for the compulsory deployment of new MBBS graduates. Bihar Education Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary expressed his gratitude and thanked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for disbursing the fund through the state cabinet. More than 2.75 lakh teachers will be receiving their two month’s salaries. The teachers who work under SSA are paid from grants released by both central and state governments. Considering the pandemic situation, owing to the non-receipt of the matching share from the Centre, the teachers were not getting their payments. They were in serious problems owing to two months’ backlogs. The Chief Minister has ordered the release of the necessary funds from the Consolidated Fund of the State government. The teachers would now get immediate payment of arrears of their salaries for two months. He has also ensured that the payment is made before Eid. “Due to delay in receiving funds from the Centre amidst the second wave of the deadly virus, the teachers were not getting their salaries,” the state Education Minister said. With this, now the payment of the salaries of teachers for almost two months will be expedited. It will help teachers in solving their financial issues.” He further stated, “Especially in the context of important festivals like Eid, it was a must.” He also stated that since the government is sensitive to the difficulties of teachers, they too are expected to bring quality improvement in their teaching methods when the government schools open.” The state government had previously decided to close all educational institutes till May 15 owing to the second wave of the deadly pandemic. Examinations which were scheduled to be held during this period were also deferred. No new notifications have been released as of now. Students will have to keep an eye out for further change in guidelines regarding re-opening of educational institutions and examinations in the official websites or social media handles.
