Overview

Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College (BJ Medical College) started as BJ Medical School in 1878 and was eventually upgraded to a full-fledged medical college in 1946. The institute was the fulfillment of the vision of Parsi philanthropist Byramjee Jeejeebhoy, to have an institution in Pune for training doctors and providing medical facilities on par with those in Mumbai. The college is administered by the Government of Maharashtra, and comprises various clinical and para/pre-clinical departments working alongside the Sassoon General Hospital, the teaching hospital it is associated with. BJ Medical College is affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and approved by Medical Council of India, New Delhi. It has been consistently ranked among the top 20 medical colleges of India by various education surveys conducted annually. In 2012, BJ Medical College Pune was ranked No.13 among top medical colleges in India in a survey conducted by the India Today magazine.

Campus

BJ Medical College campus is just five minutes walk from Pune central railway station. The campus of BJ Medical College comprises Sassoon Hospital, about nine student hostels, the main college building and a few ground and gardens. The college laboratories are well-maintained and well-equipped. Classrooms are equipped with overhead projectors, film projectors, slide projectors, LCD projectors and laptops. The other facilities are internet café, auditorium, cafeteria, placement cell and sports area.

General Information

Admission

The intake for MBBS course is 200 every year. The admissions are on the basis of merit in the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test with constitutional reservations in accordance with the centralized process by the state government. Every year around 130 students are admitted for postgraduate (PG) courses. For admission to PG courses, students should have obtained MBBS degree in respected combination. Students should be willing to complete one year of pre-registration compulsory rotating internship in the duly recognized institutions laid down by the university, for registration as medical graduate.
