Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur was established by an Act of Parliament in 2009 and the university was inaugurated on September 30, 2009 by Kapil Sibal who laid the foundation stone. The university presently functions from a temporary campus of 55,000 square feet area in the Thiruvarur District Collectorate. The university boasts about 851 students trained by 29 regular, 26 contract and 17 guest faculty and 40 non-teaching staff (regular and outsource contract).
