Overview

The Cherry Tree, a preschool for children between 2 and 6 years of age, was promoted in 1997 by Vinitha Belliappa, a home science graduate with over ten years of experience of teaching preschoolers.

Beginning with 13 children the preschool has grown to 75 students. Keeping in mind the importance of giving individual attention to children and providing them with ample playing space the preschool management has decided to keep the strength of the preschool to 75 children – all classes included.

The Cherry Tree’s formula of an experienced, caring staff, small classes and interesting programs helps create a joyful learning environment.

Campus

The Cherry Tree provides ample playing space for children with a large sand area with fixed play equipment – swings, jungle gym, climber, slides and a paved area for running around, playing ball games (basket ball, football etc) and use of tricycles and scooters. There is also a large garden/ lawn for various physical activities, nature studies & picnics. Indoor play equipment includes a mechanic work station, kitchen station, wheat pit for pouring activities etc.

Academics

The school offers programs for:

Toddlers (22 months)
Playgroup (2-3 yrs)
Nursery (3-4 yrs)
Lower Kindergarten (4-5yrs)
Upper kindergarten (5-6yrs)

The curriculum for each age group is planned with the objective of equipping children with basic skills required to progress to the next group. Equal importance is given to development of motor skills, listening & visual skills, early math, language & communication skills & social development.

A child’s creativity and imagination is encouraged through craftwork, clay work, music, storytelling and drama. Celebrations of major festivals, picnics and field trips as well as a carnival for ‘Children’s Day’ are held. The grand finale of each academic year is ‘The Cherry Tree Show’ where children showcase their singing, dancing and acting talents to a crowd of 200 proud parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts and siblings.
