Chhattisgarh: Class 10 and 12 state board exams to be held twice a year

February 27, 2024

On Monday, the Chhattisgarh BJP government announced its decision to conduct state board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 twice within the same academic session, according to officials. Although the school education department issued an order regarding this decision, it did not specify the academic year when the change would be implemented. The Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education (CGBSE) administers the final examinations for Classes 10 and 12.

As per the order, the initial phase of the final board examinations is scheduled for March, followed by a second round in July. Students who participate in the first phase can also appear in the second round without altering their chosen subjects. However, it is mandatory to submit a separate examination form for the second phase, as outlined in the order.

The second examination is open to students who have failed in all subjects, received supplementary exams, or were absent during the first phase. Additionally, students seeking to improve their grades in all subjects can participate in the second examination. Those who have passed in all subjects are eligible to submit a form for marks improvement in one or more subjects during the second exam, as indicated in the order.

Vijay Kumar Goyal, the Secretary of CGBSE, informed PTI that a decision on the implementation of the new examination rules will be made in the coming days. It is worth noting that Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan had mentioned during an event in Raipur last week that students would have the option to take the 10th and 12th board exams (Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE) twice a year starting from the academic session 2025-26.
