CUPA, Compassion Unlimited Plus Action, an organisation for the welfare of animals. A registered public charitable Trust, CUPA was founded in 1991 by Crystal Rogers, an Englishwoman. From two rooms in her house the organisation has now grown into three centers and occupies a total land area of ten and a half acres. The organisation takes care of over 10,000 wild and domestic animals in Bangalore. CUPA now has a number of facilities such as a veterinary hospital, emergency care centre and 24/7 animal shelter all working toward welfare and protection of animals. CUPA Animal Care Hospital is 24 X 7 veterinary care service provider for all animals. Since its inception in 1995 it has progressed into being the first hospital to provide round the clock veterinary care in Bangalore. The hospital is equipped with state of the art facilities dedicated toward the best animal healthcare. The animal shelter is opened 24 hours for stray and abandoned animals. Dogs, cats, injured birds, calves and ponies are regularly treated. The shelter also finds homes for abandoned pets and ensures their well-being. With the number of stray and abandoned animals increasing in the city, CUPA is always looking for active volunteers to help with animal welfare and awareness.
What can you do to help? If one is interested in becoming a volunteer at CUPA, you can download a registration form from the official website, http://cupabangalore.org. CUPA requires you to give them a commitment of total number of days and hours you are willing to volunteer with them. One can choose to volunteer in the shelter, the hospital or even work on bringing about public awareness about cruelty toward animals. If you are looking at working directly with the animals, CUPA require you to take 3 anti-rabies shots for your own safety.
