Dalai Lama’s sister conferred with ‘Light of Education’ award

Tibetan schools in Switzerland and Liechtenstein have honoured Jetsun Pema, younger sister of the Dalai Lama, with the ‘Light of Education’ award on September 15.

The president of Tibetan community in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, Gangshontsang Lobsang, and Head of Tibetan Schools Dotchung Gonpo Namgyal presented the award to Pema in Uzwil in Switzerland, according to an official release.

Jetsun Pema began working in the field of education in 1964 after the Dalai Lama asked her to take care of Tibetan Children’s Village, a school for Tibetans, it said.

Tibetan government-in-exile awarded her with the title, “Mother of Tibet” in 1995, it added.
