It’s a beautiful way to grow up, in the lofty presence of the Himalayas and the Shivaliks, away from the the clutter of urbanization, retaining the peaceful atmosphere of the ancient Gurukul while teaching today’s children to respect and appreciate Indian tradition. While it is all this the DDHA remains an institution with a pragmatic and modern approach to learning with English as a medium of communication. The founder of the academy, late Ch Puran Singh believed that nature teaches and nurtures like no-one can. Therefore, he purposely chose to found DDHA in the lush green valley – village of Nagal Jwalapur, near Doiwala, on the outskirts of the Rajaji National Park along the Suswa River nearby. He was convinced that by it’s very location in the lap of nature the academy would inspire and bring out the best in the child---inborn sensivity , natural talents and creativity that are waiting to be recognised and released. The wide open spaces around the academy allowed for all this and much more. The founder was also concerned for the need to bring good teachers and rich curriculum to the remote and outlying regions of the Doon valley for the benefit of children who would otherwise be at a disadvantage for want of access to benefits of modern mainstream education . Thus in 1990 the DDHA opened it’s portals to the children of the villages of Doiwala Block such as Nagal Jwalapur, Nagal Bullandawala , Dudhli , Jolly Grant etc. The DDHA proved to be boon for the children and parents of these rural areas as they now had an access to quality education and dedicated teaching fraternity.
