Delhi govt mandates regular inspections of state-run schools

November 6, 2024

The Delhi government has mandated regular inspections of state-run schools to strengthen infrastructure, ensure basic amenities, and elevate the academic environment across campuses. According to a circular issued on November 1, the Directorate of Education (DoE) is now responsible for assessing government schools to verify the availability of essential facilities, including clean drinking water, well-maintained sanitation, proper lighting, and adequate classroom furnishings such as desks, doors, and windows.

These inspections will also evaluate critical aspects of the learning environment, including student-to-classroom ratios, the organization of sections to prevent overcrowding, and stringent child-safety measures. The circular requires regional directors, district deputy directors, and zonal officers to visit and inspect schools under their jurisdiction three days each week. During these visits, they must monitor school discipline, teacher attendance, identification of potential security blind spots, and the functionality of CCTV cameras to maintain a safe and structured learning atmosphere.

Further, officers are expected to submit online inspection reports the same day as each visit, with a signed hard copy delivered to the inspection branch headquarters within seven days. This ensures timely documentation and quick response to any immediate issues. Deputy directors (district/zone) are tasked with promptly addressing any deficiencies recorded in these reports, allowing for swift improvements and ongoing accountability.

Additionally, the circular emphasizes the importance of building a collaborative environment among educators, administrative staff, and government officials. Deputy directors are encouraged to conduct regular follow-up visits to foster cooperation, ultimately aiming to enhance both school infrastructure and the overall quality of education. This initiative underscores the Delhi government’s commitment to creating a supportive, safe, and well-resourced learning environment for all students in the public education system.
