The Delhi School of Music, established by Delhi Music Society is currently the premier institution for teaching western classical music. The school came into being in 1966 under the direction of Dr. H. J. Koelreutter, a musician and composer who was also the head of Max Mueller Bhavan in Delhi. The school also functions as a centre for the examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, England, as well as of the Trinity College of Music, London.
