Delhi: Schools mandated a minimum of 220 working days per year

November 28, 2023

Delhi schools have been instructed to ensure a minimum of 220 working days in an academic year, as per a circular issued by the Directorate of Education (DoE) on Monday.

The circular stated that in accordance with Section 19 of the RTE Act-2009 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023, all schools under the Directorate of Education are obligated to observe a minimum of 220 working days in an academic year, taking into account the notified lists of gazetted, restricted, and local holidays for the calendar year (January to December).

It emphasized that before the commencement of the academic year and preceding the observance of holidays, the heads of government schools must ensure the completion of 220 working days. The DoE also advised deputy district education (DDE) officers to strictly enforce compliance before approving restricted/local holidays for any school under their jurisdiction. Furthermore, un-aided recognized schools are required to obtain approval for holidays from their respective management, the DoE added.
