The Department of Law, Punjab University originally established at Lahore in 1889, was re-established at Shimla in 1948, shifted to Jalandhar in 1950 and finally re-located at the university campus at Chandigarh in 1959. Department of Law is affiliated with the Punjabi University, Patiala and offers three-year Bachelor of Law course in the morning and evening shifts apart from offering a Master of Law course and providing research facilities for the Doctor of Philosophy course.
The department’s campus houses its own library and computer lab. All the classrooms of the department are well furnished with modern facilities. The computer lab hosts 16 computers, latest online databases such as Manupatra Online, West Law International, SCC Online Full text and CD-ROM databases such as Law Commission Reports, Criminal Law Journals, Income Tax Act, Income Tax Rules. The department library houses over 56,000 books, 55 periodicals, 22 monthly, 9 quarterly, 5 fortnightly, and 5 weekly journals, 6 law magazines and 9 newspapers to ensure the students are updated on the current legal scenario in the country and also across the globe. Library has online as well as offline (CD-ROM) legal databases and other CD-ROM titles.
