Founded by the government in 1962 in Madras, the Government Polytechnic was one of the first colleges in the region for technical education and training services for female students. This autonomous institution was a pioneer of vocational education for women, previously a domain only for men.
According to college spokespersons, the faculty and staff at Dharmambal Government Polytechnic for Women (DGPW) are of international standards as DGPW is a part of Canada India Institutional Co-operation Project (CIICP) which trains staff of polytechnics to improve quality and achieve development in polytechnic education.
With a current enrolment of 210 and an ISO certification, this polytechnic understands that for good placements and results, constant revision and upgradation of the curriculum is necessary. Alumni of this institution are reportedly well received by employers and the institution has a fine reputation in the community too.
