Campus

The university campus covers an area of 1312.89 acres and comprises 26 departments with their own departmental libraries, the Jawaharlal Nehru Library of the University stocked with more than 4,00,000 books, a centre of Indira Gandhi Open University, an audiovisual research centre, central instrumentation laboratory, Shrimant BS Jain Centre for Research and Education in Psychology and Population Research Centre, Muktibodh Peetha in the Department of Hindi created by the Government of MP. The campus also houses a branch of State Bank of India, post office, STD booth, employment and guidance bureau, University Press, three canteens and a shopping complex. The Botanical Survey of India has considered the Botanical Gardens of the university as the richest amongst those of Indian universities.

Accommodation

There are five hostels in the university, namely: Tagore, Vivekanand, Raman, Bhaba and Nivedita. There are 168 rooms each in Tagore and Vivekanand hostels, 50 rooms in Raman hostel and 24 rooms in Bhaba hostel, which accommodates only research scholars. The Nivedita hostel for girls accommodates 250 girl students. Hostel rooms are two bedded and equipped with chair, table, bookshelf, almirah and electric fitting for every resident. The common room is equipped with a telephone, TV, reading room, magazines, newspapers and sports material, a sports ground is also available in the hostel campus. The hostel administration provides a kitchen with utensils and a dining room with furniture and water in each hostel. A co-operative mess can be run by the students themselves.
