Have you ever wondered what happens to the chocolate wrappers, milk packets or the packaging of our edible food items? These wrappers end up in bins, oceans and ultimately in the dumping grounds. Have you thought of resolving the issue of plastic menace? Here is where Keshav Shrushti foundation steps in. The foundation has come up with an Ecobrick collection drive with an ambition to collect 75,000 ecobricks for making India’s largest Ecobrick Park.
So what exactly is an Ecobrick? Ecobrick is a reusable building block made by manually securing the clean and non-degradable plastic consumed at home into PET bottles. An ecobrick is an excellent way of preventing environmental pollution. These bricks can be used to make furniture, garden walls, pavement blocks, bricks for fencing, etc.
An Ecobrick Collection Drive was organised at Rustomjee Cambridge International School in the month of June. Students at RCIS were encouraged to make ecobricks at home by organising a healthy competition house-wise. The house which makes the maximum number of ecobricks would be the winner. Students were quite enthusiastic and participated with full vigour.
Some of the parents appreciated the school for this initiative and motivated their children to contribute as much as possible. They said, “I am proud that our children are getting an exposure as well as understanding of the need to tackle the pollution problem by helping in their initiative to collect 75000 such bottles to save our Mother Earth.”
A proud said, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the teachers and Rustomjee Cambridge international school management for the effort they are putting together to teach our children about eco-literacy.Eco-literacy plays a crucial role in instilling awareness in children about the importance of protecting the environment. It is a great thing to teach kids to be aware of the planet’s health from Young age. Making an ecobrick can be the start to maintaining their awareness.”
“At the beginning, making eco bricks was a competition, but after making some bricks it felt satisfying. I felt like a superhero when I made the bricks. It is really good for the environment. Making eco bricks was one step closer to clean India,” said another elated parent.
“This wonderful eco brick collection drive will not only help in building the world’s largest eco-friendly park but also will have a huge impact on environment and all living organisms by reducing the single-use plastic which not only pollutes the environment but also harms many animals who unknowingly feed on them. So let’s pledge to support our government for banning single use plastic and save our mother Earth.”
The school is truly overwhelmed by the generous response of the parents and the active participation of each student in saving the environment.
