Amazon Future Engineers initiative

New Delhi, January 21. In the inaugural summit of Amazon’s India’s ‘Careers of the Future’ program held in Delhi, the e-commerce company announced that its Amazon Future Engineers program, launched in 2021, has successfully trained 3 million government school students and over 20,000 teachers in 272 districts of eight states countrywide. The program primarily targets students above class VI residing in tier-2 cities, providing them access to engaging, multi-lingual learning material in seven Indian languages (Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Oriya, and Marathi).

Moreover to empower young women in technology, Amazon offers 500 merit-based scholarships valued at Rs.2 lakh each over four years, to women students enrolled in undergrad degree programmes in computer science, engineering or related fields.

This initiative, aimed at bridging the gender gap in the tech industry, provides comprehensive support beyond financial aid including mentorship from Amazon employees, advanced personalised coding boot camps, and access to personal laptops to facilitate learning and career development. Since the launch of Amazon Future Engineer program in 2021, the company has enabled over 1,700 merit-based internships in India.

British Council GREAT Scholarships

Mumbai, January 16. British Council, UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, announced GREAT Scholarships 2025, in partnership with the UK government’s GREAT Britain campaign. GREAT Scholarships will provide students from India the opportunity to undertake postgraduate studies in the UK in various fields of study.

The programme offers 26 scholarships in India from UK universities across diverse subjects. Each scholarship is valued at a minimum of £10,000 (Rs.10.9 lakh) towards tuition fees for a one-year postgraduate course. For the 2025 admissions cycle, 21 scholarships are available to students pursuing diverse academic disciplines within core subjects, two scholarships are for students undertaking postgraduate studies in justice and law, and three for aspiring leaders in science and technology, specifically STEM disciplines.

“Studying in the UK not only grants access to world-class education in renowned universities but also immerses students in diverse cultural experiences and global networks, preparing them to excel in their careers and thrive in a competitive global job market,” said Rittika Chanda Parruck, Director of Education India, British Council, speaking on the occasion.

NIIT Career Edge Scholarships

New Delhi, January 17. NIIT Ltd, the well-known digital skills and talent development company, launched its ‘Career Edge Scholarship’.

The scholarship provides final-year engineering students with in-demand skills of Full-Stack software engineering integrated with GenAI, bridging the gap between campus and corporate worlds and simultaneously addressing placement uncertainties.

Of the total fee of Rs.110,000+GST for the program, scholarship students need to pay only Rs.10,000+GST as admission fee, if awarded a full scholarship based on  their academic performance and interview. Registrations are open from January 14 with programs commencing by or before February 28, 2025. Scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis to BE/B.Tech students with a minimum of 50 percent average in classes X-XII, a cumulative score of 50 percent and above in the first seven semesters, and no backlogs.

The outcomes-driven Career Edge program builds holistic skills combining technical, engineering, and professional expertise. Through 100+ challenges, 10 projects, and drill-based practice with over 10,000 lines of code, learners gain hands-on experience in coding, object-oriented programming, databases, and full-stack development.

UoB Anniversary Scholarships

New Delhi, January 2. On the occasion of its 125th anniversary celebrations, University of Birmingham (UoB) is rolling out several special scholarships for Indian students.

The anniversary scholarships enable Indian students to obtain funding ranging from £4,000 to £5,000 (Rs.4.3-5.4 lakh) for a variety of postgraduate Masters degrees programs beginning next September. The university is also marking the installation of its new Chancellor Ms Sandie Okoro, OBE with a series of special Chancellor’s Scholarships.

Kicking off UoB’s year-long celebrations with these scholarships, Sandie Okoro said: “I look forward to marking this year momentous for the staff and students who make UoB such a wonderful place. Let’s highlight the university’s enduring commitment to diversity and high standards of education, as well as its enormous global impact.”
